Conjunctions : Joining words are called conjunctions. They are joiners.

What is the difference between preposition and conjunction ?

Preposition establishes relationship ( time, direction, place )

Ex. The book is on the table. ( Preposition ).

Conjunctions are joining words.

Ex. Gautam and Arvind are best friends.

There are two types of conjunction :

Coordinating Conjunctions.
Subordinating Conjunctions.

Coordinating conjunctionsFANBOYS
FOR .. BECAUSE OR SINCE (कारण)
AND ..IN ADDITION TO ( और )
NOR .. AND NOT ( NEGATIVE IDEA )
BUT ..HOWEVER ( CONTRAST, OPPOSITE ) विपरीत
OR .. OPTION , CHOICE ( विकल्प )
YET ..CONTRAST ( विपरीत )
SO .. THEREFORE ( RESULT, इसलिए )

Example :
Reason .. For
He called a doctor for his wife was in pain.
Let's celebrate for this a very special day.

Joining two verbs  ..And
My upline came to my home and hugged me.
He went to morning walk and did her STP everyday.

Joining Two negative clauses ..Nor
He is never tired nor is he sick.
She doesn't eat meat, nor does she eat dairy product.

Joining opposite ideas ..but
Arjun doesn't like Homework, but he does it anyway.
The restaurant was good, but it was expensive.

Joining options or choices ..Or
You could take the bus, or you could walk there.
Which would you prefer, Vanilla or chocolate.

Joining opposite ideas.. yet
The sun was shinning yet it was cold outside.
He was strict teacher yet he loved the children.

Joining ideas that gives results ..so
The road was blocked so we had to take a detour.
My car broke down so I had to take the train.

Exercise :
1. Would you rather have cheese ...Butter on your sandwich. ( For, nor, or, so )

2. His two favourite sports are football ...Tennis. ( or, and, nor, for )

3. I wanted to go to the beach... Mary refused. ( But, or, so, for )

4. Deserts are harsh and dry ...Many plants grow there. ( For, so, yet )

5. Parul looked at the antique piece ...She couldn't afford to buy it. ( And, but, or )

6. Rohit might go to the library...But she might stay home. ( But, nor, so )

7. Rina jogs everyday ... She wants to stay in shape. ( But, yet, for )

8. His shoes are worn ... he has no socks. ( For, so, or )

9. The man is a contractor .. he knows the construction business. ( So, and , but )

10. Raju went to work ... But he didn't punch in. (Or, but, so )

11. My brother is in the drama ... I went to attend the first performance. ( Or, so, for )

12. Bipin could not go ... he was tired. ( Nor, yet, for )

13. I am allergic to cats ... I have three of them. ( Or, for, yet )

14. I am vegetarian ... I don't eat any meat. ( So, yet, nor, but ) .
