Vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients that our bodies need in small amounts to function properly.
SINCE our Body requires vitamins and Minerals in small quantities, Vitamins and Minerals are called MICRONUTRIENTS.
They work together to perform hundreds of roles in the body which helps us to maintain a healthy body.
Roles of Vitamins & Minerals

There are two main types of vitamins:
1. Fat-soluble and
2. Water-soluble.
Fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) are stored in the body's fatty tissues. This means that they can be stored for long periods and can build up in the body if taken in higher doses.
Water-soluble vitamins (C and B vitamins) are not stored in the body and need to be replaced regularly through diet.
Excess water-soluble vitamins are excreted in the urine.
We need to replenish the needs of vitamins C and vitamin B in RDA amount daily.
RDA amount of vitamin C is 120 mg daily &
The RDA amount of vit B1 ( Thiamine ) is 1.2 mg daily and
RDA amount of Vit B12 is 2.4 mg daily.
Minerals are inorganic substances that our bodies need for a variety of functions, including:
1. Building strong bones and teeth
2. Regulating blood pressure
3. Maintaining fluid balance
4. Carrying oxygen throughout the body
5. Making enzymes that help with digestion and other chemical reactions in the body.
We can get the vitamins and minerals we need by eating a healthy, balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, Lean protein ( HIGH IN PROTEIN BUT LOW IN FATS ), and low-fat dairy products. In some cases, supplements may be recommended by a doctor if you have a deficiency or certain health conditions.
